a few more photos in no particular order

Here´s a photo of Alison in front of Hostel Amigo, where we stayed for the first few nights in Mexico City. If it looks like the street is completely torn to bits, it is. We had one heck of a time getting all our bags through this street- there are places where you have to walk across flimsy boards covering trenches, sidewalks with giant gaps in it, and the very entrance of the hostel is covered with a giant, round piece of wood (looks like a top to a large cask or something). You literally have to jump over a ditch to get to it. So here´s Alison pretending (or not) to fall into the ditch. The guide book said this was in a ritzy part of town. I beg to differ.

The next photo is a picture of the Cathedral in the main square (the Zocalo) of Mexico City. This is the building that we got to climb on top of (while mass was going on underneath us) to see the bells at the top. It was a little scary, I´ll admit. The staircase was a spiraling, metal structure, and I was definitely keeping an eye on how many people were climbing it at once. A little uncomfortable. And while at the top, our tour guide talked about the bells, and then, while I was not paying attention, he decided to ring the bell- and I almost fell over with fright. It was so loud and so sudden- I´m just glad I wasn´t standing on that spiral staircase when he rang it. Whew!

And the last photo, although blurry, is a picture of a Diego Rivera mural inside the President´s Palace. An original!! It was amazing to see these up close, and this was one of my favorite panels. His works was (and is) very political, and depicts a lot of conflict between the cultures and classes here in Mexico.

Enjoy!
